Creatine Blends

Compare creatine blends on the grams of creatine per serving, the other ingredients and their doses, and the cost per day. A blend is only as useful as the amount of each ingredient it contains, so start with the creatine dose and judge every extra ingredient on its own.

How much creatine is in a creatine blend?

It varies a lot, so check the grams of creatine per serving before anything else. The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) says 3–5 g of creatine a day generally maintains muscle creatine stores, and some blends give less than that in a full serving.

If the label lists a "proprietary blend" with one total weight instead of the amount of each ingredient, you can't tell how much creatine you're getting. Our guide to reading a supplement label explains what to look for.

Are creatine blends better than plain creatine?

Not necessarily. Creatine monohydrate on its own is the form a 2022 review calls the only source of creatine with substantial evidence, and each extra ingredient in a blend needs its own evidence at the dose it is used.

"Adding more ingredients doesn't automatically make a product more effective. Each ingredient needs a clear purpose, an appropriate dose and evidence supporting its intended use," says Andy Arshad, who runs SupplementHQ.

Some blends in this collection are energy or pre-workout style products that may contain caffeine, so check the label. EFSA (the European Food Safety Authority) says single doses of up to 200mg and up to 400mg a day are acceptable for healthy adults, and up to 200mg a day if you are pregnant, and that limit counts caffeine from all sources, including coffee and energy drinks.

Is a creatine blend good value?

Compare the cost of the creatine dose you want, then decide whether the other ingredients are worth the difference. Buying plain creatine and anything else you want separately is often cheaper and lets you set each dose yourself.

How to compare value (example figures, not real products): a £30 blend with 30 servings costs £1 a serving, and if each serving gives 3 g of creatine, that is about 33p per gram. A £20 tub of 500g creatine monohydrate costs 4p per gram, so 3 g costs 12p.

Compare plain creatine in creatine monohydrate or all creatine.
