Strong

evidence for creatine monohydrate

Informed Sport

independently tested

Our honest take

5 g of creatine monohydrate in a flavoured drink with added electrolytes, vitamins and taurine. The creatine dose is spot on and it is Informed Sport tested. The extras mostly help if you sweat heavily; for a normal gym session they add little, and per gram of creatine this costs over three times as much as plain powder.

  • You want creatine and a flavoured electrolyte drink in one scoop
  • You train for long sessions or in the heat and sweat a lot
  • You compete and want Informed Sport testing
  • You just want creatine: plain powder is far cheaper
  • You prefer to avoid sweeteners: the flavoured versions contain sucralose
  • You have been told to limit salt or potassium
The science

Creatine monohydrate· evidence: Strong

Creatine monohydrate is the most studied sports supplement there is, with hundreds of controlled trials in people over more than 30 years. It is also the form used in almost all of that research, which is why we treat it as the benchmark other creatine forms have to beat.

The effect builds up as your muscle creatine stores fill, which takes roughly three to four weeks at a steady daily dose, or about a week if you choose to load. You do not need to load or to cycle off.

Research into other uses, such as effects on the brain or on mood, is at an early stage and not established, so we make no claims about them.

Authorised health claim
Creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high intensity exercise. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3 g of creatine.

Daily creatine consumption can enhance the effect of resistance training on muscle strength in adults over the age of 55 years. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3 g of creatine, together with resistance training that increases in workload over time and is repeated at least three times a week for several weeks, at an intensity of at least 65–75% of one repetition maximum.

Typical dose: 3–5 g a day, taken every day

Safety: Well tolerated by healthy adults at 3–5 g a day. Expect a small gain in body weight (water held in muscle) in the first weeks. Larger doses taken at once can upset the stomach. Creatine can raise creatinine on a blood test, so tell your doctor you take it. Speak to your GP first if you have a kidney condition.

Electrolyte and vitamin blend· evidence: Limited

Electrolytes such as sodium and potassium replace what you lose in sweat. They matter most during long sessions, hot conditions or heavy sweating. For a typical one-hour gym session, plain water is usually enough.

This blend also contains small amounts of vitamins, taurine, coconut water powder and sea minerals. The manufacturer does not publish the amount of each in text form, so we cannot say whether any reaches a meaningful dose, and we make no claims about them. Think of this product as creatine in a flavoured drink rather than a serious rehydration product.

Typical dose: One 12 g scoop a day

Safety: Contains added salts. If you have been told to limit salt or potassium, check the label with your GP or pharmacist.

What buyers are saying

Rated well on Amazon UK. Buyers like the flavours, especially Berry Slush, and the convenience of a two-in-one drink, and several have replaced a separate creatine and electrolyte product with it. A few say they did not notice much difference, and one found it made them thirsty.

Our own summary of Amazon UK customer reviews for the Berry Slush version (about 30 ratings), read 9 October 2026. These are not SupplementHQ customer reviews, and we include the complaints as well as the praise.
