Informed Sport

independently tested

Our honest take

This is the kind of creatine we would point most people to: plain micronised creatine monohydrate, nothing else in the tub, and batch-tested for banned substances under the Informed Sport programme. Budget own-brands can work out a little cheaper per dose, but here you are paying for the testing and a brand with a track record. If you just want creatine that does the job, this is a sensible default.

  • You want plain creatine with no flavourings or sweeteners
  • You compete in tested sport and want Informed Sport batch testing
  • You are happy to mix a powder into water, juice or a shake each day
  • You want the lowest possible cost per dose: some unbranded powders are cheaper
  • You hate stirring: it can settle at the bottom of thin drinks like squash, so a shaker works best
  • You would rather not take a powder at all: capsules cost more per dose but need no mixing
The science

Creatine monohydrate· evidence: Strong

Creatine monohydrate is the most studied sports supplement there is, with hundreds of controlled trials in people over more than 30 years. It is also the form used in almost all of that research, which is why we treat it as the benchmark other creatine forms have to beat.

The effect builds up as your muscle creatine stores fill, which takes roughly three to four weeks at a steady daily dose, or about a week if you choose to load. You do not need to load or to cycle off.

Research into other uses, such as effects on the brain or on mood, is at an early stage and not established, so we make no claims about them.

Authorised health claim
Creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high intensity exercise. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3 g of creatine.

Daily creatine consumption can enhance the effect of resistance training on muscle strength in adults over the age of 55 years. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3 g of creatine, together with resistance training that increases in workload over time and is repeated at least three times a week for several weeks, at an intensity of at least 65–75% of one repetition maximum.

Typical dose: 3–5 g a day, taken every day

Safety: Well tolerated by healthy adults at 3–5 g a day. Expect a small gain in body weight (water held in muscle) in the first weeks. Larger doses taken at once can upset the stomach. Creatine can raise creatinine on a blood test, so tell your doctor you take it. Speak to your GP first if you have a kidney condition.

Ingredients & nutrition

Ingredients: micronised creatine monohydrate (100%).

Per 5 g serving: creatine monohydrate 5,000 mg. No added sugar, sweeteners or flavourings.

Allergens: none in the recipe. Made in a factory that also handles cereals containing gluten, egg, fish, milk and soya.

Suitable for: vegans and vegetarians. Halal certified. Batch tested for banned substances under the Informed Sport programme.

Always check the pack you receive, as manufacturers sometimes update recipes.

How to use

Mix one 5 g scoop into water, juice or a protein shake once a day. Taking it every day matters far more than the time of day.

The label suggests 1–2 servings a day and a cycle of 8 weeks on, 1 week off. One serving a day is enough for most people, and the research does not show that cycling off is needed, so either approach is fine.

Scoops are approximate. If you want an exact dose, weigh it. Do not exceed the stated daily dose.

What buyers are saying

This product is rated highly by buyers on Amazon UK, with the large majority giving it five stars. The praise that comes up most often is that it mixes easily with little grit, has no taste, and that the Informed Sport testing gives peace of mind at a fair price. The main complaints are that it can sink to the bottom of thin drinks such as squash unless you keep stirring, and a small number of buyers felt the tub was smaller than the photos suggested. Some reviewers say it improved their energy or focus; those are personal impressions rather than effects the research supports.

Our own summary of Amazon UK customer reviews for this product (about 500 ratings), read 9 October 2026. These are not SupplementHQ customer reviews, and we include the complaints as well as the praise.
