At a glance
Insufficient
evidence for d-aspartic acid
Our honest take
D-aspartic acid in capsules, sold as a testosterone booster for men. It became popular after one small study, but later trials in men who train found no meaningful rise in testosterone or strength, and one found a fall at 6 g a day; there are no authorised claims. It is very cheap, but cheap does not make it worthwhile; sleep, training and diet matter far more, and your GP can check your testosterone if you are concerned.
- You are an adult man who wants to try DAA despite the weak evidence, at minimal cost
- You want a single-ingredient product rather than a blend of herbs and stimulants
- You are under 18, a woman who is pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a hormone-related condition
- You take regular medication and have not checked with your pharmacist
- You are worried about low testosterone: ask your GP for a blood test instead
The science
D-aspartic acid· evidence: Insufficient
D-aspartic acid (DAA) is an amino acid involved in hormone signalling. It became popular as a testosterone booster after one small study, but later trials in men who train found no meaningful rise in testosterone or gains in strength, and one found a drop at 6 g a day.
There are no authorised health claims for D-aspartic acid, so we make no claims about what it does. If you are worried about low testosterone, a simple blood test through your GP is the way to find out.
Typical dose: Products typically give 2 to 3 g a day.
Safety: Not for under-18s, or in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Long-term safety data are limited. Speak to your GP first if you take regular medication or have a hormone-related condition.
