Our honest take
Bovine colostrum in capsules, 90 to a pot. Capsules are convenient but hold far less than the 10 to 20 g a day used in most athlete studies, and those studies are mixed; there are no authorised claims, so we make no claims about immunity. If you want to try colostrum, a plain powder such as Osavi's is usually better value per gram.
- You prefer capsules to powder
- You want a small, low-cost pack to try colostrum
- You have a milk allergy or are vegan
- You are a tested athlete and need a batch-tested product
- You want the amounts used in studies (a powder is more practical)
The science
Bovine colostrum· evidence: Limited
Colostrum is the first milk a cow produces after calving. It is rich in antibodies (immunoglobulin G, IgG), growth factors and lactoferrin, and supplements are often standardised to their IgG content.
Studies have mostly been in athletes during heavy training, looking at self-reported upper-respiratory symptoms and gut measures. Some results are positive, but trials are small and doses vary. There are no authorised health claims for colostrum, so we make no claims about what it does.
Typical dose: Studies in athletes have used roughly 10 to 20 g a day; most supplements give 1 to 3 g.
Safety: Contains milk: not suitable if you have a milk allergy, and may not suit people with lactose intolerance. Not suitable for vegans. Sports users should choose batch-tested products, as colostrum naturally contains growth factors such as IGF-1 that WADA has flagged.
