If you're thinking about vitamins or any other supplement for someone under 18, talk to a GP or pharmacist first, especially if they have a medical condition, take medication or follow a restricted diet. Sports supplements such as protein powders and pre-workouts are designed for adults.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eCan children have too many vitamins?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYes. The NHS says \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/baby\/weaning-and-feeding\/vitamins-for-children\/\"\u003ehaving too much of some vitamins can be harmful\u003c\/a\u003e. Vitamin A is one to watch: the NHS says \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/vitamins-and-minerals\/vitamin-a\/\"\u003efish liver oil is high in vitamin A\u003c\/a\u003e, so don't combine a cod liver oil product with a multivitamin for a child unless a health professional advises it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGive one product at a time and add up the amounts if a child has more than one, including fortified foods. Follow the age guidance on the label, and keep all supplements out of children's sight and reach, as gummies and chewables can look like sweets.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eAre gummy vitamins OK for children?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey're a common format, but many contain sugar. The NHS says \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/eat-well\/food-types\/how-does-sugar-in-our-diet-affect-our-health\/\"\u003echildren aged 4 to 6 should have no more than 19g of free sugars a day\u003c\/a\u003e, and 7 to 10-year-olds no more than 24g, and that sugar is one of the main causes of tooth decay.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCheck the sugar per daily dose, and compare drops, sprays or zero-sugar chewables, which avoid it.
