The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has said there are \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.food.gov.uk\/news-alerts\/consultations\/ashwagandha\"\u003eno safe levels established or set limits for ashwagandha in food supplements\u003c\/a\u003e in the UK, citing reports of effects on thyroid hormone levels, low blood sugar and possible liver toxicity, and asked the Committee on Toxicity to assess it. The committee was still \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/8th-september-2026-committee-on-toxicity-meeting\"\u003ediscussing a draft statement on ashwagandha in September 2026\u003c\/a\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhich? reports that the FSA advises \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.which.co.uk\/news\/article\/ashwagandha-stress-buster-or-health-risk-aw2Ik4l90Kpv\"\u003epeople with pre-existing liver conditions and pregnant women to avoid ashwagandha supplements\u003c\/a\u003e.
